IRIS EDIH is the European project of the Digital Innovation Hub (IRIS Navarra). The project, coordinated by ADItech, offers digitalisation services to companies such as Cárnicas Iruña, which has had the collaboration of the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), which has validated an innovative 4.0 food quality and safety system.

Cárnicas Iruña, a company located in Lumbier and dedicated to the cutting of pork from its own farms, was looking to improve the quality and safety control of its products. To do so, it decided to rely on CNTA, whose objective is to promote digitalisation in the food industry through the introduction of technologies such as artificial intelligence, data science and others such as artificial vision and hyperspectral imaging.

Thanks to this collaboration, four specific services have been carried out for Cárnicas Iruña, enabling it to establish the bases for improving the control of non-conformities in meat. This technological advance is a first step towards the development of a future industrial implementation focused on the detection of foreign bodies in meat products in real time and oriented towards the total quality of the product.

For CNTA, this success story reinforces its commitment to the digitisation of the agri-food sector and shows how it can offer technological services to small and medium-sized enterprises at no cost to them, thanks to the funding of the IRIS EDIH project. This initiative is also a great incentive for more SMEs to access advanced technologies without the initial investment being a barrier.
