The IRIS LAB Synthetic Biology Laboratory is the only facility with this groundbreaking technology in Navarra, housing cutting-edge equipment to design, manufacture and characterise biomolecules, microorganisms and advanced biological systems.

It is part of the IRIS Navarra Digital Innovation Hub ecosystem and was conceived as an open, shared and flexible laboratory to promote the development of synthetic biology, biotechnology and bioengineering in Navarra. 

This laboratory can carry out a complete synthetic biology workflow, from genetic manipulation through to the production of recombinant proteins, metabolite analysis, biomolecule purification and microorganism cultivation. It is geared towards applications in the health, agri-food, sustainable energy and environmental fields, among others.

The model is open and flexible: companies can contract customised services, access the equipment on a self-service basis if they have the necessary training, or collaborate on R&D&I projects with the IRIS ecosystem. 

The laboratory also has qualified technical staff who provide expert advice.

WAYS TO ACCESS THE EQUIPMENT
HOW IT WORKS

Access to the laboratory is organised in three ways:

  • Outsourcing of services: the laboratory staff carries out the entire test.
  • Self-service: for trained users who can use some equipment unsupervised, upon reservation.
  • Collaborative projects: in partnership with IRIS Lab or its managing entities.

A complete catalogue of specialised services is also available: DNA synthesis, cell culture, protein production, sequencing, cytometry, metabolomics, bioinformatics, synthetic biology consulting, etc.

It depends on the use

The final price to be paid depends on the service requested.

Maintenance and revision of the equipment

Nasertic's professionals, with the support of the equipment manufacturers, are responsible for carrying out regular preventive and corrective maintenance and servicing to detect and correct any minor faults that may arise.

What if there are problems?

The person receiving the equipment is responsible for any problems with or damage to the equipment. Therefore, they must report these as soon as possible and bear any repair costs.

Do I need training to use this equipment?

Yes. Given the degree of specialisation of the equipment, the following is required::

  • Specific training or prior accreditation for self-service.
  • Qualified staff for certain equipment (QTOF, Cytometer Sorter, Biacore, FPLC).
  • Compulsory basic training in biosafety and good laboratory practice.
